FRANKIE the Wild Mustang

Gerry entered the Extreme Mustang Challenge being held in Albany, Oregon.  We picked up our mustang at the Wild Horse Corrals in Burns, Oregon the first week of December (-15*!!) and only got to put 30 days on her before an old shoulder injury began to cause too much lameness to continue.  These are photos of the first 20 days...

Day 1

BLM Wild Horse Corrals in Burns, Oregon.

First touch with a 10' bamboo pole

Day 2

1st Touch, Re-Haltered and Rubbed All Over.  Eased Frankies tongue out of her mouth and she was very relaxed.

Day 3

Saddled, Sacked and Picked All Four Feet

Day 9

16 US Border Patrol Agents Preparing for  President Obama's Inaugural Parade.  I introduced Frankie to the Tarp, the Ball and the Car-Wash and Mounted her for the First Time this Day.

Day 10

Rode Frankie with the Border Agents.  She pushed the Ball All Over, Rode Through the CarWash and Over the Bridge.

 Day 14

We've had Lots of Snow!!

Frankie has been Awesome!

Day 19

Initially Frankie was aggressive toward our dog Henry, but they soon became good friends.  I decided to test her fear of Fire!!

Day 20

Frankie got so good at laying down that I could do a RunDown, SlideStop and step off, tap her foot with mine while tugging on the saddle horn and she would FLOP down and Play Dead!!

Frankie was a 4yo BLM Mustang from the Murders Creek herd in Oregon.  On the 3rd day we had her we could see she had what appeared to be a very minor limp in her left front.  After riding her for two weeks the limp became more and more pronounced.  After 30 days of training we decided Frankie should not continue on.  Frankie was one of the most fun horse projects I had ever taken on.. From WILD to MILD in less than 20 days!!
